The Project Summary is the heart of your proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF): a one-page summary of what you’re proposing to do and how it meets NSF’s intellectual merit and broader impacts criteria. It is often the first thing reviewers will read and can set the tone for how your proposal is reviewed. This two-part workshop will help you write a clear, persuasive Project Summary. Part 1 (1 hour): You’ll learn how to approach the Project Summary strategically. We’ll discuss how to structure your summary and ensure each part is constructed to form a compelling whole. Part 2 (2 hours): You’ll learn how to strengthen your Project Summary draft by revising it at the paragraph, sentence, and word level. Through peer feedback, you’ll get experience critiquing others’ summaries and learn to see your own draft the way a reviewer might. You may attend either session or both.
